Virtual memory (swap file)

A SWAP FILE is an area of the hard disk assigned to swap data between RAM and the hard disk. This creates 'VIRTUAL MEMORY'. A swap file can be used to make more memory available to applications than is physically available in the system. Windows 95 automatically creates virtual swap files as needed and deletes these when the computer reboots. The hard disk should have enough free space to accommodate the swap file. Generally at least 20MB of unused hard disk space should be available for the virtual memory.
